Intro

The lake of Pfäffikon is a recreation area for all those who love nature. The lake with its reed belt is of national significance. The highlights of this bike tour are the Roman castle, the Robenhauser moor, and the Juckerhof farm in Seegräben.

Description

Thanks to its variety of trails, the lake of Pfäffikon is a nature reserve and recreation area for both pedestrians and bikers. The lakeshore zone with its marshes is of national importance as the habitat of a great number of animals, as well as for its rich flora. The tufted duck is considered the most common freshwater diving duck. They were also kept in the ponds of the gardens of the castle of Versailles. The lake freezes over in very cold winters, and the ice turns into a playground for skaters, ice hockey players, and walkers. In summer, visitors can enjoy several bathing facilities and a camp ground. The lake of Pfäffikon is a very popular destination all year round.

The Roman castle Irgenhausen, perched on the eastern shore of the lake, was built in 294 / 295 AD. The fortress served to protect the Roman road between Kempraten and Winterthur and was the largest in Switzerland. The local museum of Pfäffikon offers further insights into the history of this region. To the south of the lake, the biking trail crosses the Robenhauser moor, which gives shelter to many migratory birds returning from the south in spring. Stopping for a break at the Juckerhof in Seegräben is worth its while. The nice view, the farm shop, the seasonal exhibitions, the culinary treats together with the jumping castle made of straw and the goats make sure that young and old visitors have fun at this special farm.

An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
