Piste de la Tourbière
Overview
Intro
The La Tourbière circular trail takes you to Fruitières de Nyon and includes the vast Jura landscape on the border with France. The undemanding, varied stretch boasts panoramic views to Mont Blanc.
Description
The Piste de la Tourbière is a cross-country ski and skating trail that is suitable for all levels. The starting point is at the Col de la Givrine, at 1228 metres. The pass linked eastern France to the Lake Geneva basin as early as the Middle Ages, and from the 19th century, served as an important route for transporting wood to Geneva. Today, the area is part of the regional Jura Vaudois Nature Park.
The first section climbs gently through the sparse spruce forests towards Combe Grasse. Open woodland alternates with meadows and fields. From the hills, you have a view across high Jura pastures with mighty spruces, which stand in a landscape criss-crossed by dry stone walls. You can often find wild animal tracks in the snow on the edges of the forests.
Fruitières de Nyon is the highest point of the trail. Here, a sweeping view opens up across Lake Geneva to the Alps. On a clear day, you can see Mont Blanc, the highest Alpine peak. The way back covers the same stretch to Combe Grasse. Here, the trail branches off to the right. To finish off, you can enjoy the well-earned descent.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
