Piste de luge de Champex-Lac
Overview
Intro
Descend from the summit of La Breya in Champex-Lac along this approximately 6 kilometre sledge run into the wild Arpette valley. The end of the valley with the Col des Ecandies forms the pass to the Plateau de Trient glacier massif. The descent boasts an impressive view of mountain peaks surrounded by firs, larches, arolla pines and pine forests.
Description
The starting point of the sledge run is at the top of the chairlift, where the 360° panorama deserves a few moments of appreciation. If the weather allows, enjoy the spectacular view of the Grand-Combin massif, Mount Vélan and Lake Geneva.
After leaving the top of the chairlift, the piste heads down the forested north face of La Breya in broad curves. You will descend deeper and deeper into the Arpette valley, with its dark woods and snowy peaks. The Arpette valley is a nature reserve. With its biodiverse swamp landscapes and mixed woodland, it is of the rare wild valleys of the Valais Alps.
Once you have reached the valley floor, the Durnand d'Arpette will follow. The source is located some way above the piste. The mountain stream, which gentle meanders along the sledge run, has also carved out an impressive gorge landscape. The Durnand Gorge with its waterfalls extends from above Martiny and is worth a visit.
Relais d’Arpette, located right next to the sledge run, is a good spot to take a break. The piste then rejoins the top of the La Breya chairlift in Champex. The village is aptly nicknamed “little Swiss Canada” thanks to its vast forests, lake and traditional wooden chalets.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
