Description

The route starts in Bitsch and leads directly to the stretch known as the Red Mile, which runs along the former Furka-Oberalp railway, now a popular hiking and cycling trail. Its namesake is the red marking on the tarmac that continues the entire way. Mostly staying level, the trail offers a pleasant combination of rural and urban environments. There are numerous benches to sit and enjoy the views along the way. Take a break to appreciate the stunning Rhone Valley and mountains around you.

On leaving Naters, you will pass by the World Nature Forum, an important centre for nature and environmental conservation dedicated to promoting the theory and practice of sustainability. The objective of the Forum is to preserve and protect the beauty and diversity of nature in the region. The museum and its restaurant are worth a visit.

From Brig, the route then follows the Rhone, which flows gently through the valley. The route leads through a picturesque landscape where verdant meadows meet the rugged Alpine peaks. Passing by the village of Brigerbad, known for its thermal springs, there are alternating stretches of exposed fields and shaded woodland. The peaceful atmosphere and unobstructed views of the surrounding peaks make this hiking trail a relaxing experience in the great outdoors.
