Thurgauer Panoramaweg
Overview
Intro
The Thurgauer Panoramaweg leads past orchards and nature reserves, visits a moated castle, passes through classic farming villages and well-preserved old towns as well as over the highest mountain in Thurgau, with views of the Bodensee and Alps.
Description
The Thurgauer Panoramaweg leads through the middle of «Mostindien», as the rural canton covered with orchards is sometimes called. Past farms, nature reserves and classic farming villages with pretty timber-framed houses. Five springs bubble at Hosenruck, fed from far-off Alpstein. The Nollen, is only 733 metres above sea level, but you can still enjoy an extensive panorama from the Bodensee to the Alps.
In between, you can enjoy fish fondue and regional wine in the Knight’s Hall at Hagenwil moated castle and then gently rock across the Sitter in a motorless longboat with the ferryman. Hike along a root-covered path, through a marshland nature reserve with five fish ponds laid out by monks from the St. Pelagiberg Monastery.
Both stage destinations of Bischofszell and Will can be proud of their well-preserved old town quarters. Bischofszell was even awarded the Wakkerpreis by the conservation society for the exemplary renovation of its historic centre. To the northwest of the town, the Bogenbrücke bridge dating from 1487 spans the River Thur.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
