Winterwanderweg Springenboden
Overview
Intro
The Springenboden winter hiking trail leads through snow-covered forests and meadows high above the valley floor of the Diemtigtal Nature Park. After an ascent, impressive views of the rear Diemtigtal and into the Simmental await.
Description
This varied circular winter hiking trail on the home turf of Swiss wrestling champion Kilian Wenger starts at the car park below the Gasthaus Gsässweid (Horboden) and leads via Chüeweid towards Alp Otteschwand. The wide and groomed trail ascends steadily to Neuenstift. The route traverses several snow-covered forested sections without marked ascents. Alp huts dotted throughout the landscape herald the next alp summer. The trail offers access to the Springebode snowshoe trail in several places, and the culmination point of this hike affords fantastic views of the surrounding mountains in the rear Diemtigtal and Simmental valleys. The winter hiking trail at Springenboden leads in no time into a secluded and peaceful environment far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Back at the starting point, winter hikers can warm themselves up over a hot beverage and a hearty meal at one of the restaurants. At Springenboden you will also find the Swiss Wrestlers’ Pavilion, which is open year-round and introduces the visitor to Switzerland’s national sport. The pavilion features a life-size wooden sculpture of wrestling champion Kilian Wenger and Arnold the prize bull, won by Wenger in 2010 in Frauenfeld. There is also an opportunity to purchase tasty local produce from the Diemtigtal Nature Park.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
