Intro

A panoramic view like no other: From Leiterhorn, the entire length of the Lauterbrunnen valley can be seen. Another magnificent sight is the view up to Jungfrau mountain and the striking, pyramid-shaped Silberhorn peak.

Description

Sitting on a plateau high above the rugged Lauterbrunnen valley, with its waterfalls and steep rock faces, is the village of Wengen. Famous around the world for the Lauberhorn ski slope and Jungfraujoch, it has still been able to maintain its village character. Wooden huts with a nostalgic feel, wooden chalets and hotels from the Belle Époque await winter sports enthusiasts in the centre of the village where the Leiterhorn trail begins.

Beneath the striking face of the Männlichen mountain, the path initially goes through Ledi to Hunnenfluh. Still relatively flat and without snowshoes on your feet, it still gives you a magnificent view into the Lauterbrunnen valley. From Hunnenfluh you can enjoy the view over Lütschental and beyond, all the way to Interlaken. Now it’s time to buckle up those snowshoes: Over meadows and through mountain forests, the trail leads up to Leiterhorn in about half an hour. At the edge of the forest, it consistently offers incomparable views towards Wengen and Jungfrau.

Having reached Leiterhorn, snowshoe hikers can expect a magnificent view over the 4000-metre high mountain range and beyond into the long, deep Lauterbrunnen valley. One particularly impressive feature is the steep rock faces that surround the bottom of the valley. Those with a head for heights can find a view on the north side that looks down an almost 700-metre high, vertical drop into the village of Zweilütschinen. Higher up on Leiterhorn there is an open field where you can kick off your snowshoes and relax. The subsequent return route then goes through Ussri Allmi via a forest path, which is well developed and not too steep, heading back down to Wengen.

An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
