The Fairy Grotto at a glance
The fairy grotto is located above Saint-Maurice in Valais and is considered the first grotto in Switzerland accessible to tourists. Since 1863, an illuminated path has led over a winding gallery into the interior of the mountain. At the end of the tour, an underground lake and a 50-metre-high waterfall await guests.
What to experience
Cave walk to the waterfall (1 hour)
Follow the illuminated path through winding galleries into the limestone cave. At the end of the 500-meter trail, you'll find yourself in front of an underground lake with a 50-meter-high waterfall rushing into it. According to legend, the fairy fountain inside the cave fulfils a wish when you dip your left hand into the water.
- Good to know: The cave will remain closed all year round due to renovation work in 2026.
- Tip: Plan your time – it's a 25-minute walk from Saint-Maurice train station to the grotto.
