Intro

On the Rhone Skate route between Sierre and Vevey, the section along Lac Léman rates as one of the most attractive in Switzerland. The easy, mainly flat route is family- friendly with plenty of leisure activities on offer.

Description

The Rhone Skate route starts in Sierre and leads through the lower Rhone Valley to Lac Léman, following its northern shore to Vevey. In the Valais the route is almost flat, running on a wide part of the protective dams along the banks of the Rhone. The surface on parts of the stretch needs to be improved to allow carefree skating fun.

The Valais landscape is dominated on one side by the chain of Valais high-Alps, on the other shaped by vineyards and wine villages as well as fruit and vegetable cultivation on the wide valley floor.

From Villeneuve the Rhone Skate route enters a very different landscape. Lac Léman and the Vaud Riviera combine with the Lavaux vineyards, sophisticated hotel palaces in Montreux and the Château de Chillon to make a world-famous scenic setting. So it’s hardly surprising that the stretch between Villeneuve and Vevey rates as one of the most attractive skating sections in Switzerland – even if speed skating is not acceptable here out of consideration for the many pedestrians.

An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
