This is Sedrun
Sedrun lies in the canton of Graubünden at the foot of the Oberalp Pass, on the Glacier Express route. In summer, you can hike to the source of the Rhine, while in winter you can ski all the way to Andermatt.
Discover Sedrun
The church of Sogn Vigeli has a 13th-century tower with an octagonal spire. Inside, you can admire the Baroque altar decorated with gold leaf. Around 200 metres away, Museum La Truaisch houses an important collection of local minerals. Some specimens were discovered during construction of the Gotthard Base Tunnel near Sedrun. Right next door, you can relax at the Bogn Sedrun indoor swimming pool.
Skiing between Andermatt and Disentis
Sedrun is part of the Andermatt+Sedrun+Disentis ski destination, which includes the Gemsstock, Andermatt–Oberalp Pass–Sedrun and Disentis ski areas. A cable car takes you directly from Sedrun to the Disentis ski area. To reach the ski area towards the Oberalp Pass, take the train to Dieni and then the chairlift. You can also return to Dieni on the four-kilometre toboggan run.
Hiking to the source of the Rhine
Lake Toma near the Oberalp Pass is considered the source of the Rhine. It lies at an altitude of 2,345 metres at the foot of Piz Badus. From the top of the pass, a hike of around 1.5 hours leads across Alpine pastures to the small lake. The red lighthouse at the pass is modelled on a lighthouse in the Netherlands. It symbolises the connection between the source of the Rhine and its mouth in the North Sea.
Around Sedrun
Follow the Senda Sursilvana hiking trail from Sedrun through small hamlets to Disentis. There you’ll find the Benedictine monastery with its Baroque church and two domed towers. The abbey has a history stretching back around 1,400 years. You can explore the monastery on a guided tour or visit its museum. In the hamlet of Selva, you can play golf on a nine-hole course.
