This is Vaduz
Vaduz is Liechtenstein's political centre, known for its castle and internationally renowned art museums. The town lies in the Rhine Valley, on the border with the Swiss canton of St. Gallen.
Discover Vaduz
The «Städtle» is Vaduz's pedestrian zone, where the main sights are close together. Peter-Kaiser-Platz is home to the historic government building and the parliament. At the National Museum, discover the history of the principality, while the Treasure Chamber displays Fabergé eggs and moon rocks. Admire Liechtenstein's postage stamps at the Postal Museum, which offers free admission, and get a souvenir stamp in your passport at the Liechtenstein Center. Liechtenstein is an independent country, but you pay in Swiss francs.
Vaduz Castle
Follow the Schlossweg from the town centre, climbing around 120 metres to the country's landmark. Information boards along the approximately 1-kilometre route tell the story of the princely family. Halfway up, stop at the «Känzile» viewpoint and look across Vaduz's rooftops towards the Rhine Valley. As Vaduz Castle is the residence of the princely family, it can only be viewed from outside.
Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein
You'll recognise Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein by its black façade of polished concrete. It showcases modern and contemporary art, particularly sculptures and installations. The museum is connected to the white building of the Hilti Art Foundation. Its collection includes works of classical modernism, including pieces by Picasso and Giacometti.
Around Vaduz
The 75-kilometre Liechtenstein Trail takes you on foot or by bike through all 11 municipalities of the principality. Take the bus to Malbun for skiing in winter or hiking in summer. And if you walk across the Old Rhine Bridge, you'll reach Sevelen in Switzerland. At 135 metres long, it is the last wooden bridge across the Alpine Rhine.
