Markus Raetz
This painting is based on a photograph that Franz Gertsch took of his slightly younger artist colleague Markus Raetz during a trip to Germany together. Although the picture is a snapshot it is turned into a timeless homage to Markus Raetz by Gertsch’s elaborate photorealistic painting method and giant format. Gertsch and Raetz both come from the area of Bern and rank among Switzerland’s most important artists.
