Photo Elysée ehrt die Schriftstellerin, Fotografin und grosse Reisende Ella Maillart (1903-1997) mit einer Ausstellung, die ihren Reisen durch Zentralasien in den 1930er-Jahren gewidmet ist.

Photo Elysée ehrt die Schriftstellerin, Fotografin und grosse Reisende Ella Maillart (1903-1997) mit einer Ausstellung, die ihren Reisen durch Zentralasien in den 1930er-Jahren gewidmet ist.

Im Jahr 2025 wurde ihr Gesamtwerk von der UNESCO als Werk von universellem Wert anerkannt und in das Register des Weltdokumentenerbes, „Memory of the World" aufgenommen. Anlässlich dieser Auszeichnung von globaler Reichweite würdigt diese Ausstellung den einzigartigen Lebensweg einer Frau, die die Geschichte des Reisens geprägt hat.

Anhand ihrer Fotografien und Reiseberichte zeichnet Photo Elysée die vier grossen Reisen nach, die die Entdeckerin in den 1930er-Jahren in die Sowjetunion, nach China, Afghanistan und in den Iran unternahm. Die Ausstellung beleuchtet die umfassende dokumentarische Tragweite ihres Werks und dessen Bedeutung für das Verständnis der Kulturen, denen sie auf ihren Reisen begegnete.
