School Performance of "Dua"
Overview
Intro
Take your class to see the school screening of “Dua” and experience contemporary history on the big screen.
Feature film by Blerta Basholli, XK, CH, FR, 2026, 101 minutes. In Albanian and Serbian with German subtitles. Suitable for students in grades 9 and up in Secondary Levels 1 & 2.
Prishtina, late 1990s: As war looms and ethnic tensions disrupt daily life, 13-year-old Dua struggles to find her place amid school, her peer group, and a body undergoing change. When an incident rocks the neighborhood, the community’s gaze turns to her. Her encounter with the fearless Maki opens a door to quiet, unexpected resistance: the vital sense of agency she finds through judo. In a climate of control, fear, and the threat of exile, Dua navigates her way through friendship, guilt, and courage—coming of age in the shadow of the Kosovo War, in a world falling apart.
