Salève Cable Car
Overview
Intro
With the Salève cable car, you float from the outskirts of Geneva to an altitude of 1100 meters in 5 minutes. At the top, a 360-degree view of Lake Geneva, Mont Blanc and the Jura Mountains awaits you.
The Salève cable car at a glance
The Salève cable car connects the French town of Pas de l'Échelle with the summit of Mont Salève. Since 1932, the cable car has been taking guests to the mountain station at 1,100 metres. At the top there are terraces, an exhibition on the history of the Salève and a restaurant. From Geneva, the valley station can be reached by public transport in 20 minutes.
What to experience
Cable car ride (5 minutes)
In the spacious cabin you drive up to the mountain station. The exposed concrete building from the 1930s was considered modern at the time and still looks attractive today. During the ride, the view of Geneva, Lake Geneva and the surrounding countryside opens up to you. On clear days, the view extends as far as the peaks of the Bernese Alps.
- Good to know: The valley station can be reached by bus 8 from Geneva.
- Tip: With the Geneva Transport Card, the journey to the border is free.
Circular hike to the observatory (1 hour)
From the mountain station, a family-friendly path leads to the observatory on Mont Salève. The path runs through the forest and across open meadows and offers views of Mont Blanc and Lake Geneva again and again. With a bit of luck you will encounter chamois or other wild animals.
- Good to know: Wear sturdy shoes, even in good weather.
