Morcote Route
The Morcote Route leads through the region south of Lugano, where you get a closer look at the delightful Morcote and Grancia villages that radiate Mediterranean charm. Experience Ceresio and “the sea of cherry trees“, as Lake Lugano is fondly known in the mouths of the Ticino locals; and of course an ice-cream tastes best when eaten under palm trees in Mediterranean-like ambiance.
Lake Lugano beckons with enjoyable scenic boat trips and there’s naturally no lack of excellent shopping facilities and pretty streets to stroll in the town of Lugano itself. (PostBus stop Lugano, Piazza Rezzonico). Open greens and parks fulfil the promise of relaxation; such as the Parco Civico public park and exotic Belvedere Gardens on the shores of the lake. And Lugano not only represents a business metropolis with own casino, instead also a Mecca for art and culture fans.
Discover the region’s architectonic masterpieces along with cultural highlights such as the Lugano Estival Jazz event or Blues to Bop. Visual highlights are in store on the Monte San Salvatore (PostBus stop Paradiso, Stazione FFS: Seilbahn), where sweeping views culminate in panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Superb views are there for the taking also along the Höhenweg Path, which leads through the picturesque Carona artists’ village to Morcote; and lakeside jewel that encourages a dolce-fa-niente lifestyle. (PostBus stop Morcote, Piazza Grande).Visit the Scherrer Park (PostBus stop Morcote, Parco Scherrer) and catch a glimpse of the enchanting arcades and noble abodes. And if you’d like to see more on a smaller scale, (1:25 scale) the open-air Swiss Miniature in Melide is the place to be (PostBusstop Melide, Stazione).
