The old “Nagli” nail factory by Winterthur Grüze railway station is now a protected monument where the city’s industrial past comes vividly to life.
Five historic nail machines and an intact transmission system have been occupying their original spot for over 120 years in Switzerland’s only nail factory. The machine room of 1895 is reminiscent of times gone by, while nails are produced to this day in the adjacent rooms. With the impressive machines roaring, the transmissions clattering and the smell of lubricants in the air, the industrial history of Winterthur comes fully alive. A demonstration in the historic machine room is arranged by the inbahn association. Advance reservations are required for a guided tour. Single visitors can join a group tour on the first Saturday of every month.
