Boucle champêtre du Nord vaudois
Overview
Intro
Starting from the spa town of Yverdon-les-Bains, the route, nestled between the Jura on one side and the Alps on the other, leads quickly up to the hills above town. Overlooking Lake Neuchâtel, the trail winds its way through the rural and authentic landscape of northern Vaud.
Description
Starting from Yverdon-les-Bains railway station, the route passes by the famous Place Pestalozzi and its medieval castle before quickly leading out of town and gaining height. A look back lets you marvel at the views of Lake Neuchâtel and Grandson Castle in the distance. The route begins with a moderate climb to Echallens, before descending and returning on flat terrain via the Orbe plain. The landscape is mainly rural. The path is lined with colourful fields and groves, always with the Jura or the Alps in the background.
Enjoy the peace and tranquillity of typical villages along the route. In Essertines and Vuarrens, shops selling local products are waiting to be discovered. The views over the varied landscape of the Gros de Vaud, the canton's breadbasket, are magnificent. The fields of wheat, barley, spelt and maize are shining in the sun. Depending on the season, you can marvel at the yellow splendour of the rape and sunflower fields.
In the village centre of Goumoens-la-Ville, a few typical farmhouses date from the 17th to the 19th century. It's also an ideal place to fill your basket. Many farmers sell all kinds of farm products in self-service shops. The route crosses the Orbe plain to return to Yverdon-les-Bains, where you can end your day delightfully by the lake.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
