Herzschlaufe Burgdorf
Overview
Intro
Route 899 winds twice around Burgdorf, almost forming a figure eight. Its two partial loops each offer a wonderful day trip into the hilly Emmental landscape with views of the alps and the Jura.
Description
The eastern loop takes you to the "Wynigenberge", a superbly situated cascade of hills on the edge of the Mittelland. Here you can enjoy lovely views towards the Jura and the alps, and experience many a highlight. The "Glungge" farm from the Gotthelf films or the old tavern "zum Wilden Mann" are still fascinating today. The way back to Burgdorf leads to the edge of the Emmental, where the hills merge into the plain in a spreading expanse. With its 48 kilometres and almost 1100 metres of difference in altitude, this route offers an authentic experience of the Emmental region.
Those who travel in the other direction will be equally rewarded. The western loop leads into a lesser-known part of the Emmental. First of all, an elevation opens up that spoils you with views of the Jura and the Mittelland. You find yourself gliding traffic-free towards the west, until you find the bend back into the Emmental at the castle of Utzigen and then the "Mänziwilegg". With its 43 kilometres and a good 900 metres of difference in altitude, the route offers enough time for leisure and a snack along the way.
Depending on the direction of travel, anyone wanting to take one loop or the other from Burgdorf has to cycle the three kilometres to Oberburg (Lochbach) to find the entry point there. The "Herzschlaufe Burgdorf" route is part of the "Hügu Himu", the collective name for the Emmental cycling paradise. Various signposted routes and combinations have been established in the extensive hilly region, offering an Eldorado of atmospheres and scenic beauty, especially for e-bike enthusiasts.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
