The route is closed until further notice. A challenging tour, mostly downhill, starting at Moosalp. First a warmup, surrounded by 4000 m peaks, in the direction of Alp Pletsche, then the trail fun begins: some of the path to Embd is rather steep, but easy to ride, before it descends to Kalpetran with lots of turns and exposure.
Description
The postbus takes the bikers from Visp to Moosalp, high above the Rhone Valley, a popular destination with views of the Bietschhorn in the north and the Weisshorn and the Mischabel group with Balfrin and Nadelhorn in the south. The tour starts directly at the Moosalp Restaurant. Initially it is flat and follows a wide hiking trail. The mountain chains of the Saas and Matter Valleys with their countless 4000 m peaks are unforgettable.
Shortly before Alpe Pletsche the trail branches off and a fun ride through the open forest and across meadows begins. The first section is steep, but attractive and easy to ride. The speed should be reduced wherever the trail is exposed. Via several twists and turns the route arrives at the terraced village of Embd. Restaurant Morgenrot, a labyrinth of winding lanes, homes with quartz roofs and the stunning mountain views would tempt anybody to hang around for a while.
From Embd the tour follows the road to “Derfji”, a descent of about 250 altitude meters. The spectacular trail continues via “Gufersch Bodo” with lots of turns and through exposed, rocky terrain down to Kalpetran. The corners in this second section are a bit sharper, but the trail flows well. Because of the risk of falling rocks this downhill is closed when it rains. The destination of Kalpetran is known especially for its railway station where the famous green quartzite from the Embd quarries used to be loaded on the train. Now it is a stop of the Matterhorn-Gotthard Railway on the way to Zermatt.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
