Round trip hike in the picturesque region of the Diemtigtal. An unique mountain range with luscious green meadows, small waterfalls and little springs.
Description
The tour begins at Grimmialp and leads along Senggibach creek, which leisurely flows through pastures and lovely meadows. The scattered farms are soon behind you and at Würzi you enter the forest. On shaded, pleasantly cool forest trails you continue up to Alp Grimmi. When you get to the mountain restaurant of the same name, you’re probably ready for a break. If you’re lucky you might even catch a glimpse of some chamois balancing between the steep grass slopes on the mountainside.
Shortly thereafter you approach the mystical place of Grimmiwasser. White signposts mark the way there. While the water of the mineral spring is colourless, the iron dissolved in the water settles on the underground and provides a rusty red colour. Long ago, the Alpine herdsmen of the Diemtigtal Valley told their neighbours from the Simmental Valley about the healing powers of the Red Spring located all the way in the back of the Diemtigtal. The healing spring water was known far beyond the small mountain valley. For particularly serious illnesses, the water was picked up in barrels, jugs and bottles at the alp, even in winter and under very difficult circumstances. Because of the spring’s healing powers Grimmialp became a health resort in the 19th century. For a few years, a water line was installed to transport the water directly from the spring to what was the Grimmialp sanatorium at that time.
From the spring you continue in the direction of Stierenberg where you have an excellent view of the impressive cliff of the Fromattgrat peak. The path descends via Alp Nidegg. Those who wish to avoid the descent of about 400 altitude meters continue to the Grimmialp mountain station and take the convenient chairlift down to the valley.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
