Weisshorn (4,506m a.s.l.)
Intro
A mountain that looks like it could have been lifted straight out of a picture book: pyramid-shaped and almost completely set apart. The climb up the Weisshorn is one of the Alpine region’s most beautiful, and at the same time one of the most challenging.
The Weisshorn is a classic among four-thousanders. Rising almost completely alone, the mountain stands out against the Valais Alps thanks to its pyramid shape. For many mountain climbers, the Weisshorn poses a fascinating challenge. All of the routes that cross the three striking ridges are extremely challenging. The first ascent of this mountain took place in 1861 via the eastern ridge, which is now known as the normal route. At 4,506 metres above sea level, the Weisshorn gets its name from its constantly snow-covered northeast face, which is easily visible from the mountain village of Randa.
