Susi and Ueli Berger's Cloud Lamp is an excellent example of how Swiss design can be humorous. This pendant lamp is based on two plastic shells moulded in different shapes but with the same base outline, which are glued together. The Berger couple were artists and designers who made use of vacuum forming technology in 1970 to break away from the strict symmetry of traditional lighting. The pendant lamp is fixed to the ceiling; during the day, it hovers over the room like a comic version of a passing fleecy cloud. But in the dark, it becomes a source of warm light.
