Wald-Hexen (Forest Witches)
Klee's "Forest Witches" number among the most impressive works of his final years. The thick lines that are so typical of Klee's late work appear on an olive-green background. They form meshes that meander across the entire area of the picture and – as a new feature – even seem to intersect with its edges. The figures of two "witches" appear gradually before our eyes, emerging from diverse fragments of these lineaments that are not directly linked together.
