On Saturday, October 11, 2025, Ayent will host the 3rd International Day of Traditional Irrigation, an event dedicated to the valorization and transmission of an ancestral know-how, inscribed since 2014 on UNESCO's Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Organized by the Musée valaisan des Bisses, in collaboration with the Association des Bisses du Valais, the Consortage and the Amis du Grand Bisse d'Ayent, this day will highlight the importance of bisses as a living heritage, but also as a school of resilience in the face of today's climatic challenges.
A program combining heritage and conviviality
The day will start at 9am at the Musée valaisan des Bisses with a friendly welcome (coffee/tartines), followed by a guided tour of the museum. Participants will then share a raclette served by the Friends of the Grand Bisse d'Ayent, before discovering the Samarin hydroelectric power station and embarking on a hike along the Bisse d'Ayent.
Afternoon highlight: a demonstration of traditional irrigation by members of the Consortage and the Amis du Grand Bisse d'Ayent. The day will close with an aperitif at the Etangs d'Arbaz.
