What to experience

Ride in the highest outdoor lift in Europe

In the glass cabin of the Hammetschwand lift, you ascend 153 meters vertically in less than a minute. During the ride, you can see Lake Lucerne and the surrounding mountains through the glass walls. The historic lift combines technology from the Belle Époque with spectacular views.

  • Good to know: In bad weather, the lift does not run. Check this online in advance.
  • Tip: Go in the morning – then you have the best visibility and there is less crowd.

Panoramic view from Hammetschwand

At the top of the Hammetschwand, you have a spacious viewing platform at your disposal. You are at 1132 meters – the highest point above Lucerne. From here you can overlook the entire Lake Lucerne, the Rigi and the Pilatus. On a clear day, you can see as far as the Bernese Alps.

  • Good to know: The platform is accessible free of charge, only the lift ride costs.
  • Tip: Bring food – there's a picnic area at the top.

Rock path from the Hammetschwand lift (1 hour)

The Felsenweg leads from the valley station of the Hammetschwand lift to the Bürgenstock Resort (2.2 kilometres). Built into the steep northern flank, the path is one of the most spectacular high-altitude promenades in Switzerland. You hike high above Lake Lucerne with a view of the lake and mountains. Alternatively, a path leads from the lift to the Känzeli viewpoint.

  • Good to know: The hiking trail is open from spring to autumn.
  • Tip: Sturdy shoes are recommended – the gravel path can be slippery.
