Andermatt-Loipe

At the heart of the Swiss Alpine passes, at the intersection of the pass routes from north to south and from west to east, lies Andermatt. The cross-country ski trail along the golf course starts in the largest village in the valley, by the Nordic House. It can reached by foot in around five minutes or, for added convenience, by the village bus, which stops right in the vicinity.

Even non-cross-country pros are sure to enjoy the course: with a low degree of difficulty, it winds through a fascinating landscape, presenting impressive vistas. From the Urschner valley floor, the view sweeps to the Schöllenen Gorge with its steep walls, over the elongated Bäzberg and up to the peaks of Gemsstock and Winterhorn.

The course is perfect for advanced skiers to use as a warm-up, while for beginners, it serves as an ideal way to get into the sport of cross-country skiing. The Andermatt trail also integrates a beginners’ course and a themed trail called “On Gloria’s trails”, which is particularly suited to children. Three animal mascots, Gloria, Selma and Sämi, hold up signs at the edge of the trail with exercises designed to improve technique. The beginners’ course is very flat, causing heart rates to rise only slightly. All in all, the trail offers a varied experience for all. What’s more, there is a restaurant with a terrace close by, providing a perfect spot to relax and take in the wonderful view.
