Kronberg-Schlittelweg
Overview
Intro
The longest tobogganing run in Eastern Switzerland – from the summit of Kronberg to Jakobsbad. As you ride along the ridge and across meadows and pastures, the imposing north face of the Säntis range is always in view.
Description
The summit of Kronberg can easily be reached by cable car from Jakobsbad (train station and large car park). Once you arrive at the top, the Kronberg mountain inn offers the ideal location for an initial refreshment break. After a short walk you reach the summit cross. This also marks the start of your tobogganing fun.
The run down to Jakobsbad is prepared daily throughout the winter and is the longest toboggan run in Eastern Switzerland. Before you start, take a few moments to enjoy the great views. To one side are the Alpstein massif and the mighty icy north face of Säntis. To the other side is the Lake Constance region – often swallowed up by a sea of fog, especially in autumn – with in the foreground the delightful hills of the Appenzell Vorderland.
At first, the run proceeds at a leisurely pace along the relatively flat ridge. On a steep, curving section you speed past the St. Jakob Chapel en route to the Scheidegg mountain inn – the ideal spot for your next break. After a short traverse through a lightly wooded area, you pass the Chlepfhütte mountain hut. A steeper section now follows in wonderfully open terrain. Finally, you reach your destination, the valley station of the Kronberg cableway.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
