Weissenstein-Winterwanderung
Overview
Intro
Grey below, luminous blue above: it’s time for Mount Weissenstein. Those sick of the fog can enjoy a winter hike on Solothurn’s local mountain, which offers splendid views of the Swiss Plateau to Mount Säntis and Mont Blanc.
Description
A beautiful tour which is also perfect for families: the circular trail from Restaurant Sennhaus to Hinterweissenstein. Once arrived on Solothurn’s local mountain using the modern gondola lifts, the leisurely winter hike can begin.
Without any significant ascent, the signposted trail leads to the west across the alpine plateau and the edge of the forest. The snow-covered Bernese and Valais Alps tower in the distance, and on clear days one can see out across the Jura chains and into France. From up here, the River Aare looks like a shimmering silver ribbon winding its way gently across the Swiss Plateau.
With gentle ascents and descents, the winter hiking trail wends its way towards the Hinter-Weissenstein mountain restaurant. After a good half hour, one comes to the turning point. Reinvigorated with food and drink, one continues along the snow-decked field path to Restaurant Sennhaus. The gondola lift takes the hikers back down to the flat land below – and luminous blue once more turns to grey.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
