… with Joe Scolari, father of three, carpenter and a real outdoorsman. Like many parents, Joe and his wife tried to persuade their children to go hiking.

Their overtures met with little enthusiasm and were mostly ignored. But anyone who knows Joe is aware that he doesn’t give up that easily. His passion for hiking and nature is unparalleled.

A solution was needed.

Joe built a giant marble run and set it up in his garden. His children were thrilled by it and played with it incessantly. Joe had found a solution, and BoBosco was born.

Combining hiking with fun activities

BoBosco consists of two hikes or two parts. One is 5.5km long and goes from Brione to Lavertezzo, taking in 13 marble runs along the way. The other is 4.3km long, starting in Gerra and ending in Sonogno. There are 10 marble runs along this route. The two hikes promise plenty of excitement and fun, because every marble run is different, so you should allow enough time and plan the two hikes over two days. You can also shorten the hike at any time.

Joe Scolari did not develop the marble runs alone. Various creative and innovative minds worked alongside him, including teachers, graphic designers, engineers and DIY enthusiasts. As a result, the marble runs are all vastly different, much to the surprise of visitors.

Friends and acquaintances loved my idea, so I got plenty of active assistance with building the BoBosco marble runs.

The Verzasca river lends its name to the eponymous valley. Visitors simply must set aside some extra time for the Verzasca: relax, enjoy a picnic and plunge your bare feet into the cold water. There are numerous picnic spots on both hikes.
