Intro
Baden – this vibrant little city on the Limmat has truly lived up to its name. Baden was even known to the Celts and Romans and its atmosphere was appreciated by such renowned figures as Goethe, Nietzsche and Dürrenmatt. Baden has always served as a meeting point and melting pot.
The picturesque Old Town is one of the highlights of the city and is regarded as one of the most impressive of the medieval towns. Discover its diversity, which includes the houses that have been renovated to the smallest detail, stroll through the car-free streets and visit the ruins of Stein Castle, once the official residence of the Habsburgs. Other historic landmarks include the 56-meter-high City Tower, a Swiss listed building, and the Landvogteischloss (governor’s castle) with its modern extension housing the Historical Museum, and marvel at the impressive beam structure of the covered wooden bridge.
