Christmas markets, Advent concerts and fairytale trams: Zurich is simply magical at Christmas time. The whole city is bathed in warm light, the scent of cinnamon and mulled wine fills the air and Christmas carols can be heard everywhere. Many small shops offer the opportunity for extensive shopping. And of course there are also various Christmas markets.
Zurich shines in every corner at Christmas time. Bahnhofstrasse shines with "Lucy", the special Christmas lights. Christmas lights shine in the Old Town and in many other places, bathing Switzerland's largest city in a very special light.
At Zurich's oldest Christmas market in Niederdorf or the popular Christkindlimarkt at the main railway station, locals and visitors alike come together to browse the stalls for rarities. At the "Wienachtsdorf" on Sechseläutenplatz, against the backdrop of the opera house, you feel like you're at home with St Nicholas. Countless enchanting market stalls with local products and many other attractions make guests big and small dream.
Children are delighted by the enchanting fairytale tram. The scent of cinnamon, chestnuts, punch and mulled wine is everywhere. And you should enjoy a raclette or fondue while strolling through the city centre.
