Born in 1878, Louis Chevrolet moved at a young age with his family to France, where he taught his craft in workshops and already carried out successful bike races. In 1900, Chevrolet then emigrated to Canada, and a year later moved on the to the United States, where he was soon to become an idol as racing car driver and car constructor. He founded the Chevrolet Motor Company of Michigan in the year 1911 - laying the foundations for the legendary car brand that conquered the streets with the famous "Chevy".

The young Geneva-born artist Christian Gonzenbach created the five meters high and eight-ton sculpture; commissioned to mark the centenary of the Chevrolet brand that Louis Chevrolet co-founded in Detroit on November 3, 1911. Unlike many other classic works, the sculpture is not perched on a pedestal, instead stands inside the Parc de l'Ouest to be touched and perceived at "eye level".
