Eggishorn viewpoint
Overview
Intro
From the Eggishorn viewpoint at 2,926 meters above sea level, you can look directly onto the 23-kilometer-long Aletsch Glacier. You can see over 20 four-thousand-meter peaks, including the Matterhorn, Weisshorn, and Jungfrau – an Alpine panorama that is among the most beautiful in Switzerland.
The Eggishorn at a glance
The viewing platform on the Eggishorn (View Point Eggishorn) offers you a 360-degree view of the Alps. Directly below you lies the Great Aletsch Glacier, flanked by the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. To the south, you can see the Matterhorn and Monte Rosa, and to the west, Mont Blanc. You can reach the Eggishorn from Fiesch by cable car via Fiescheralp. The area is part of the Jungfrau-Aletsch UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Panoramic view of the Aletsch Glacier
From the Eggishorn, you can see the entire Aletsch Glacier in all its glory. You can see how the ice winds its way 23 kilometers through the valley, framed by mighty four-thousand-meter peaks. The viewing platform offers you an unobstructed view of the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc – an unforgettable experience of nature.
- Good to know: The Eggishorn is part of the Jungfrau-Aletsch UNESCO World Heritage Region.
- Tip: Early in the morning, you often have the clearest view and fewer visitors.
High-altitude hikes with glacier views
Numerous hiking trails lead from the Eggishorn through the high mountain landscape. The routes take between 1 and 3 hours, for example to the Fiescherhorli or the Märjelensee. You always hike with a view of the glacier. The trails are well marked and offer fantastic photo opportunities.
- Good to know: The hiking trails are free of snow in summer, but it can already be cold in autumn.
- Tip: Bring warm clothing – even in summer, there is a cool wind at 3,000 meters.
Mountain restaurant and sunset
The Eggishorn mountain restaurant invites you to stop for a break. Enjoy Valais specialties on the sun terrace with a view of the glacier. Particularly worthwhile: the sunset, when the four-thousand-meter peaks glow in warm light. Take the last gondola back down to the valley.
- Good to know: Depending on the season, the mountain railway runs until around 5 p.m., and longer in summer.
- Tip: Note the last gondola time or stay overnight on Fiescheralp.
