KLODIN ERB

Like a seismograph that detects the issues facing our society, Klodin Erb explores the boundaries of painting through a style that is by turns expressive and minimalist, pop and surrealist. Through series of paintings, monumental installations, hypnotic soundtracks, videos, and collages, she blends artistic references with motifs drawn from popular culture. In the eclectic world thus created, opposites coexist to give rise to joyful hybrids: we encounter famous or familiar figures (wolves, lemons, ghosts, humans), undergoing processes of metamorphosis that blur the boundaries between self and other.  For this solo exhibition, Klodin Erb takes over La Grange with a body of work that explores the interdependencies among living beings. With humor and commitment, she explores the power dynamics between different forms of life. Defying the usual categories that establish a hierarchy among species, she invites us to reconsider our own ways of being alive: what animates us, connects us, and transforms us? At the heart of an immersive, sensory space-time, a dialogue emerges with this “other” that expresses itself in an unknown language, yet one that may lie deep within us.
