World history on the village stageSuworowHistory and stories Suworow's march over the Swiss Alps raises many questions, even today: Why did General Suworow cross the Swiss Alps with his Russian army in the autumn of 1799? Why did the crossing over the Panixerpass turn into a drama? What does it mean when an army of 15,000 men arrives in a small village like Pigniu/Panix, with its 70 inhabitants? What does history say about it, and what do the stories told here say? Why did an Elmer cow occupy the Glarner and the Bündner authorities? What does the Zurich Sechseläuten march have to do with Suworow? And: How was the event processed in painting, literature, or music? Arnold Spescha grew up in Pigniu/Panix and can tell a lot about it. Arnold Spescha
