Intro

Elia Cecino, a young pianist and winner of the inaugural E. Tchaikovsky Prize, will kick off the two series of free events: “Hall in Musica” and “Lac en plein air”. All who are interested, curious or passionate can attend any concert or performance, which will add a special something to a Mediterranean summer in Lugano.

The LAC Lugano Arte e Cultura cultural centre stands out with its unusual and impressive architecture. Located in the heart of the lively city of Lugano on the shores of the lake with same name, the LAC is a real eye-catcher. Visitors will immediately notice how both “Luganesi” and tourists alike sit here sipping coffee, enjoying the architecture and views of the lake. The LAC’s credo is that everyone is welcome: just walk in and be charmed by the LAC’s architecture, with the inside as much a feast for the eyes as the exterior. The LAC Shop also offers all manner of wonderful things, including a fine choice of carefully selected pieces and books for young and old.

The LAC cultural centre brings together the disciplines of art, music, theatre and dance. Here, performances and concerts, exhibitions and events all take place under one roof. People can meet, exchange ideas or savour the gentle sounds of a piano concert. Many of these multidisciplinary activities are free to the public. They originate from the LAC edu programme and are part of the monthly events such as “Hall in Musica” and “LAC en plein air”. The “Hall in Musica” event sees the imposing entrance hall of the LAC transformed into a concert hall where highly talented young musicians have the space and opportunity to demonstrate their skill in front of an audience. Listeners of all ages can appreciate pleasant sounds in a relaxed, informal atmosphere. In summer, the open-air amphitheatre is the venue for the “LAC en plein air” festival, which is organised in collaboration with artistic partners. Music, voices and words are at the heart of this summer programme. Starting in July, it offers classical music concerts, explorations of the world of sound and free encounters with international artists and musicians from the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana (OSI).

The exhibitions of the Museo d’Arte della Svizzera Italiana (MASI – sede LAC) can be visited by everyone, and are accompanied by guided tours and workshops.
