The Grindelwald–Männlichen Gondola at a glance
The modern Grindelwald Terminal is the starting point for the gondola up to Männlichen. The 10-person gondolas glide in around 19 minutes over alpine meadows and mountain forests to the mountain station at 2,225 metres. During the journey between Grindelwald and Wengen, you enjoy unobstructed views of the world-famous Eiger north face.
What to experience
Panoramic gondola ride (19 minutes)
From Grindelwald Terminal, you ride the gondola over lush alpine meadows, past traditional wooden houses and through the mountain landscape of the Bernese Oberland. With every metre, the view opens up over the valley, the Eiger north face and the Bernese Alps. In the fully glazed gondola, you sit right in the heart of the majestic panorama.
- Good to know: The gondolas are wheelchair accessible and suitable for strollers.
- Tip: Sit on the left side for the best view of the Eiger north face.
Royal Walk to the summit (30 minutes)
From the mountain station, the Royal Walk leads up to the summit of Männlichen at 2,343 metres. The path begins at the so-called Royal Gate and features information panels with interesting facts about the region. At the top, a panoramic view of the Bernese Alps awaits. In winter, the path is cleared and can also be walked with winter shoes.
- Good to know: The ascent is also suitable for families with children.
- Tip: Take time at the top for the crown-shaped platform with views as far as Lake Thun.
Panoramic hike to Kleine Scheidegg (2.5 hours)
On the high-level trail from Männlichen to Kleine Scheidegg, you walk through a protected, ancient Swiss stone pine forest. Ahead of you rises the 1,800-metre-high Eiger north face. At Kleine Scheidegg, you reach the Jungfrau Railway, which takes you on to the Jungfraujoch, to Lauterbrunnen or back to Grindelwald.
- Good to know: The trail is well signposted and has only gentle inclines.
- Tip: Combine the hike with a visit to a restaurant at Kleine Scheidegg.
