Kraftwerke Sarganserland AG
Overview
Intro
Kraftwerke Saganserland AG provides consumption-adjusted peak-load energy.
The Kraftwerke Sarganserland (KSL ), which were built between 1971 and 1978, are a 98.5 per cent subsidiary of Axpo (the remaining 1.5 per cent belongs to the canton of St. Gallen). Due to their fast availability and large capacity, the KSL power plants are used to generate consumption-adjusted peak-load energy. Both the Mapragg and Sarelli power plant stages use the water inflows from an approximately 160 km2 catchment area in the Weisstannen and Cafeisen valleys and collect this water in the Gigerwald and Mapragg reservoirs. The reservoirs are a popular destination in the summer. The Mapragg reservoir can be reached from Bad Ragaz (SG) on foot in 2h 26 minutes, by public transport in 30 minutes, or by car in 17 minutes.
