Musegg Wall Lucerne
Overview
Intro
The Musegg Wall towers over Lucerne and offers you history and views in one. Climb the medieval towers and enjoy the view of the lake, the city and the Alpine panorama.
The Musegg Wall at a glance
The Musegg Wall dates back to the 13th century and, at 870 metres, is the longest surviving city wall in Switzerland. 9 of the original 30 towers still stand on the Musegg Hill today. Four of them are freely accessible: The Männliturm, the Zytturm, the Watchtower and the Schirmerturm. The wall is open from April to November.
What to experience
Walk on the Wall (30-45 minutes)
Follow the narrow battlement walk on the Musegg Wall and discover Lucerne from ever new angles. The path takes you up stone stairs and through several towers. On the way you will see the old town, Lake Lucerne and, on a clear day, the Alps up to Mount Pilatus.
- Good to know: The wall path is narrow and has stairs.
Climb the Zytturm (15-20 minutes)
In the Zytturm (time tower) you can observe the oldest tower clock in central Switzerland up close. It strikes the full hour, one minute before all the other clocks in Lucerne. A relic from the Middle Ages, when only the full hours counted. Inside, you'll also find a collection of historic tower clocks.
- Good to know: A visit is only possible during the summer months.
- Tip: Be up shortly before the hour and experience the chime of the bell up close.
