Intro

Discover one of the most beautiful train journeys in Switzerland: The panoramic route from Lake Geneva to the Bernese Oberland. With the GoldenPass Express you can travel through 3 cantons without changing trains, past vineyards, alpine pastures and the mountain village of Gstaad.

The GoldenPass Express at a glance

The GoldenPass Express connects Montreux and Interlaken Ost. The route is part of the Grand Train Tour of Switzerland and runs through the cantons of Vaud, Fribourg and Bern. Thanks to panoramic windows, the 1st, 2nd and Prestige classes offer an unobstructed view of lakes, valleys and mountain peaks.

What to experience

Panoramic drive through the Alps (3.5 hours)

From Montreux, the route goes uphill over Lake Geneva through the idyllic Pays-d'Enhaut. Pass traditional chalets and lush alpine pastures before the train stops in Gstaad. Soon after Zweisimmen, the view of Lake Thun and the striking peaks of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau opens up to you.

  • Good to know: It is recommended to reserve seats.

Travel in Prestige Class

The Prestige class offers raised seats with 40 centimetres more view. You can also heat your seat and turn it in the direction of travel. Large panoramic windows reach into the roof and provide a view in all directions. The train staff will serve you regional specialties at your seat, from breakfast to caviar from the Bernese Oberland.

  • Good to know: Reservations for the Prestige class are mandatory.
  • Tip: Order your breakfast or aperitif online in advance.

Nostalgia in the GoldenPass Belle Époque

The GoldenPass Belle Époque also runs between Montreux and Zweisimmen. The historic carriages with wood panelling and velvet seats take you back to the time of the great rail journeys around 1900. The elegant furnishings are reminiscent of the Orient Express. Large windows offer you an unobstructed view of the passing mountain landscape.

  • Good to know: The Belle Époque only runs to Zweisimmen.
  • Tip: Combine Belle Époque and GoldenPass Express in Zweisimmen.
