Panoramic ski tour in Les Paccots
Overview
Intro
A great deal of tranquillity, a fairytale winter landscape and a dreamlike view of snow-covered mountain peaks and as far as Lake Geneva – this is what the new ski tour at Les Paccots in the Fribourg Region promises. The route is suitable for beginners as well as for advanced skiers.
Les Paccots, the starting point of this tour, is located on the southern fringe of the canton of Fribourg, not far from Lake Geneva. The start of the ski tour, which takes around one and a half hours to complete, is at the end of the village at the La Cuva car park. The ascent begins in the middle of the forest with a flat section – perfect for warming up. After around five minutes, there is a clearing where the four-kilometre cross-country ski trail “La Cuva” begins, and from you get your first glimpse of the Dent de Lys, one of the highest peaks in the area.
Right through the fairytale forest
The tour descends briefly to the small bridge over the Veveyse river, then climbs slowly but steadily. The path winds through the fairytale forest with trees covered in deep snow. After a good half hour, the scenery changes. A typical mountain hut along the way and the impressive view of the Teysachaux mountains and the Dent de Lys make for the perfect winter scene.
At the foot of the Teysachaux, the highest point of the tour
Another short ascent follows to the foot of the Teysachaux – the highest point on the route. This is the place to take a break and enjoy the wonderful view of the surrounding mountain peaks. Best of all: in good weather, the view even reaches as far as Lake Geneva.
Lunch with a view and an enjoyable descent
The destination of the route, the Buvette Le Vuipay at 1,473 metres up, can already be seen from here. It is just a little further down, so you can already take off your skins and enjoy a short descent through the powder snow. When you arrive at the Buvette, the owner François welcomes his guests outside on the terrace or inside in the cosy alpine hut. It’s best to call ahead and reserve your seats. Typical regional specialities are served up, such as Alpine macaroni, rösti, cheese slices or fondue. Well fortified, the hikers then head off on the enjoyable descent – ten minutes of pure powder happiness!
Further information:
- Equipment: skis, ski boots, skins, etc. can be rented at the Sport’Yves sports shop in Les Paccots. Reservations recommended, as there is a high demand in winter.
- The tour is also a snowshoe route.
- At the Buvette Le Vuipay, you can also rent a bob for the descent (CHF 6.00).
How to get there:
- By public transport to “Les Paccots, Les Rosalys”. From there, the tour takes one hour and 45 minutes.
- By car to the La Cuva or La Cascade car park. Snow chains are an advantage as the roads are often covered in snow in the winter. From there, the tour takes approx. one hour and 15 minutes.
