Alpe Äbnet–Hannigalp Trail
Overview
Intro
Attractive snowshoe trail through Grächen’s landscape with views of 14 four-thousand-metre peaks, including the world-famous Matterhorn. The snowshoe trail sets off from Alpe Äbnet. From here, the trail is relatively flat to begin with, becoming steeper as it passes through conifer forests and up to Hannigalp.
Description
High above the Mattertal Valley on a wide sun terrace is the winter sports resort of Grächen. Alpe Äbnet can be easily reached from the village by foot. You’ll strap on your snowshoes on the pasture right next to the valley ski run. First, the trail runs along the edge of the forest and across the ski slope, before descending quickly into the woods.
The path towards the Hannigalp mountain station starts off relatively flat, but then becomes a little steeper. After the first few metres, you’ll find yourself in the middle of the magical larch forest of Grächen. If there is fresh snow on the ground, this will make for a particularly special experience. Even in the forest, the trees regularly open up to reveal views of the surrounding four-thousand-metre peaks, such as the Weisshorn or the summit of the Matterhorn.
Once you’ve reached Hannigalp and your (leg) work is done, you’ll be able to sit back and take in the views from one of the many restaurants or bars with sun terraces. Those on a family outing are sure to love the 200m2 indoor playground paradise “SiSu Wolkenland” in the Hannigalp family mountain restaurant. In the SiSu Family Park, you can speed down the hills in an air-filled tyre. The unique Fairytale Cable Car will then take you down into the village, or you can don your snowshoes again and retrace your steps on the trail.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
