Intro

This idyllic winter hike leads between the tall fir trees of the Franches-Montagnes from Le Noirmont station to Le Creux-des-Biches. The easy tour across the vast plateau of the Franches-Montagnes is ideal for beginners.

Description

The winter hike begins at Le Noirmont, in the heart of the Doubs Regional Park. The quiet village lies on the Jura high plain of the Franches-Montagnes, directly on the edge of the Doubs valley. Below the plateau, the Doubs, the border river between Switzerland and France, meanders placidly in its deep valley. From Le Noirmont, the groomed winter hiking trail leads through the typical landscape of the Franches-Montagnes, characterised by snow-covered fir forests, extensive peat bogs, old dry-stone walls and sweeping pastures. The Franches-Montagnes owe their name to the woodcutters, hunters and farmers who settled in the region at the time. In 1384, they received a charter from the Prince-Bishop of Ramstein, granting them special rights.

The route leads across snow-covered meadows, past the tiny hamlet of Peupéquignot. At the Auberge du Peupéquignot, it is worth taking a break and warming up with a hot mulled wine or tea. Where Franches-Montagnes horses romp about in front of the terrace in summer, you can enjoy the tranquillity of the enchanting Jura landscape. Back in the cold winter air, the path takes you across the vast wooded pastures to Le Creux-des-Biches. The historic Le Creux-des-Biches railway station marks the end of this winter hike.

An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
