Chlosterweid-Schneeschuhtrail
Overview
Intro
You don't need to be in peak condition to enjoy this snowshoe hike through remote areas, but watch out: the view of the Chli Aubrig could whet your appetite for more challenging tours.
Description
The postbus stops by the school in Euthal, a small village at the far end of Lake Sihl. From there, it's a ten-minute walk to Ober Schweig where the trail starts. The hike starts with a captivating view of the Chli Aubrig. Passing by farms, the trail runs uphill on a steady but gentle slope and across snowy meadows. Some of these belong to Einsiedeln Abbey, which is why the field and the route are known as “Chlosterweid” (abbey meadow). But this monastic name could just as well describe the hushed silence on the trail.
After a short stretch of woodland near Chrummflüeli, the route reaches its highest point. Seasoned snowshoe hikers would continue to the Chli Aubrig, but this trail now slopes gently downhill and the return journey begins. The open terrain affords a view of Euthal and Lake Sihl below. After a few glances at the mountains of the Sihl and Wägi valleys behind them, hikers find their way back to the starting point at Ober Schweig.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
