Grubenberg Trail
Overview
Intro
Get away from it all here on this spectacular snowshoe trail to the Grubenberg Hut. This is located high above the lovely Saanenland, at the foot of the bizarre limestone crags of the Gastlosen mountains.
Description
This trail starts at the village of Abländschen. A chalet village in the municipality of Saanen, it is situated 1,320 metres above sea level with delightful views of the peaks of the Gastlosen chain. These rugged limestone mountains with their vertical rock walls, some over 300 metres high, are indeed a sight worth seeing.
The snowshoe trail to the Grubenberg Hut starts at the Birematte winter parking lot above Abländschen. To get to the trail, walk along the winter hiking trail from the Zitbödeli restaurant (+ 1.2 km). When you leave the starting point at Birematte, follow the signposts across the open meadowland and up to the Undere Ruedersberg Alp.
Now the route takes you along the snow-covered road up to the Mittelberg pass crossing (1,635 metres above sea level) and after that there are still a steep 200 altitude metres to cover before you arrive at the Grubenberg Hut. This hut at the foot of the Gastlosen chain is open all year, but in the winter it is only serviced as necessary. But always available here, weather permitting, is the magnificent view extending from the Bernese Alps and the Wildhorn massif to the peaks of the Pays d'Enhaut.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
