Panoramic hiking high above the rugged Lauterbrunnen valley, with fantastic views over the world-famous mountain trio of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The path ascends gently through light mountain forest and over meadows.
Description
This winter hike from Grütschalp to Mürren follows the touristic Panorama Mountain Railway Line Lauterbrunnen-Mürren, and is also a beautiful high-altitude hike. High above the basin of the Lauterbrunnen valley, where base jumpers tumble through the air, the trail gently ascends uphill. Its most captivating feature is its fantastic views. In centre stage: The alpine scenery of the Bernese Highlands, with the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains. The world-famous mountain range is within view for the entire duration of the trail.
The hiking trail winds up the slope to lofty, sunny heights, and is mostly flat. There is variety in the light mountain forests and over the meadows. When there has been no snowfall for a while, the path is also suitable for pushchairs.
The car-free holiday resort of Mürren is the end destination of the tour. The Walser settlement at the foot of the Schilthorn mountain can thank a certain Mr “Bond, James Bond” for its fame. At the end of the 1960s, a few scenes from the Bond classic “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” were filmed on the mountain. Despite all of this, Mürren has remained a cosy, tranquil mountain village. The open ice rink is often bustling with non-skiing guests, creating a jovial atmosphere. It’s also worth taking a look behind you here: The Männlichen mountain range and Faulhorn range in the background create a panoramic view that is nothing short of magnificent.
