Intro

Description

It is worth taking the time to let the impression of this primeval landscape against the backdrop of the Alpine foothills and Bernese Alps sink in. The circular route leads from Uetendorf railway station through a varied agricultural region and past the moraine lakes of Geistsee, Dittligsee, Uebeschisee and Amsoldingersee. Elongated, glacier-smoothed hills called drumlins stand sentinel-like in the landscape, often crowned by a tree. They bear witness to the region's Ice Age past.

Amsoldingen is home to the arguably oldest building in canton Bern, Amsoldingen church. Built around 1000 AD as a Romanesque basilica, the church was dedicated to Saint Maurice and most likely already attached to a collegiate foundation. The rectory and adjoining ancillary building were added around 1700. A small bridge between the former ossuary and the rectory attic was built for tithing purposes. Together with the privately owned castle, rectory and ancillary building, it represents an attractive group of buildings by the lake of the same name.

An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
