Cross-country skiers on the Salwidelifind panoramic trail find peace and solitude in the Entlebuch biosphere reserve. The trail passes through moorland terrain and offers delightful views of the surrounding mountains, including the Brienzer Rothorn, the Schrattenfluh, the Tannhorn and the Hohgant.
Description
Salwideli above Sörenberg (alt. 1353 m) is the setting-off point for a range of winter activities, such as snowshoeing by the light of the moon, ski touring to the Schrattenfluh and hiking through sparkling winter scenery.
The panoramic Salwideli cross-country trail gives skiers the impression of being in the far North. Offering a variety of terrains, it is more than 12 kilometres in length, although shorter circuits are possible. The trail can be shortened at Blattenschwand by skipping the loop via Laubersmad-Bärsel and climbing directly to Blatten. It starts to ascend steeply at the third kilometre, but the effort is worth it: the Türndlimoos plateau (alt. 1500 m) offers glorious views of the surrounding mountains, including the Brienzer Rothorn, the Schrattenfluh, the Tannhorn and the Hohgant. This high-level moor is a great place for soaking up the sun. More ambitious skiers can add any number of additional loops before turning back and heading for the Berggasthaus Salwideli. This inn was originally erected by the Catholic Church in 1939 as a holiday home for families of limited means.
Salwideli is reached from the Sörenberg Dorf skiing area via the three-kilometre connecting trail from Rossweid. A winter walking trail to Salwideli runs parallel to it.
