Intro
Snowshoe trail with panoramic views of the Dents du Midi and the Vaud Alps. In the upper Val d'Illiez, the route leads from Champoussin along a mountain ridge, across fields and forest.
Description
The trail starts at the large car park on the way into Champoussin. After crossing the river, follow it on the right side. The path continues downhill through sparse forest and across a clearing to the tour's lowest point. At "Sur Crête", the terrain gets steeper. The route leads uphill through delightful countryside to the Frâchette refuge, which features a beautiful picnic site with tables and toilets.
Follow the ridge along the forest edge and then through the forest to Grouille aux Sangliers (wild boar's pond), where several trails intersect. Take the one to your right that leads downhill back to Champoussin. It crosses a second wooden bridge and then the ski run. From there, the route continues uphill via "Ferme à Gaby" to the "Chez Gaby" inn, the snowshoe trail's highest point. The tour ends back at the village entrance between the Sepaya ski run and the chalets of Champoussin.
On your way through snowy fields and forest sections, take in the magnificent views of the Dents du Midi, the Vaud Alps and the Rhone plain. Champoussin, a charming little Valais holiday resort built in the traditional Val d'Illiez style, lies at the end of the route. The pretty chapel seems to watch over the valley and the mountains. Enjoy a gourmet break on one of the village's sun terraces.
